FAQs

What type of qualifications do Fraser House chiropractors have?
All our chiropractors have trained for five years at the AECC. This included neurology, pathology, biomechanics, anatomy, x-rays, spinal adjustment techniques and related subjects. Ongoing education is very important to our chiropractors, who undertake Continuous Professional Development by way of various courses which enables them to improve their skills and be aware of the latest techniques and research.

Our chiropractors are members of the General Chiropractic Council and the British Chiropractic Council.

Is Chiropractic Safe?
Chiropractic treatment is one of the safest forms of treatment when performed by properly qualified and registered chiropractors. Our chiropractors will be more than happy to put your mind at ease regarding any concerns you may have.

Do I need a GP referral?
The simple answer is no. A direct phone call to us is all that is needed to make an appointment.

Is Chiropractic covered on the NHS?
At the moment, unfortunately not, but the General Chiropractic Council is working to try and change this in the future. Also local Primary Care Trusts may fund chiropractic care but this is only in some areas.

Will treatment hurt?
Many patients feel instant relief after their treatment. There may be some discomfort, however, if you have acute muscle spasm which is tender to the touch. This usually settles within a few hours and our chiropractors will advise the best way to deal with this.

How can I find out if chiropractic is suitable for me?
Our chiropractors will be more than happy to talk with you. Free assessments are offered to enable you to discuss your condition with them. A telephone call or e-mail to the clinic to make an appointment is all you have to do.

How often do I need to have treatment?
This depends upon many factors surrounding your condition - the length of time you have had it, the type of condition and your input and commitment relating to rehabilitation. In many cases significant improvement will take place during the first 3-4 treatments, and 2-3 more treatments over a period of time may be needed to stabilise the condition. However, every case is assessed individually and your chiropractor will advise a treatment plan specifically for you.

It is very important that after the initial treatment plan that you and your chiropractor discuss the best way to maintain your condition.

Am I too young/too old for chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is suitable for all ages. Babies as young as a few days old can benefit from very gentle adjustments to help with colic and many other child related conditions. As we get older we need to retain our mobility and chiropractic care can help with this.

Can I have treatment now that I am pregnant?
Chiropractic can be of great benefit to pregnant mums. Back pains, groin pains and many more conditions can be helped by chiropractic care.

What is the difference between an osteopath and a chiropractor?
Chiropractors and osteopaths graduate with a similar educational background. However, chiropractors are taught to take and read x-rays and there are some differences in the approach of the two professions with chiropractors concentrating more on adjustments to re-establish the normal function of the nervous system.
